Our 4 year old enrolled in this room are busy exploring and discovering the environment around them. They are engaged in stimulating programming that continues to foster their self-awareness and independence. As we prepare this group for kindergarten, we focus on cognitive development, problem-solving, social competencies, language skills, numeracy, cultural awareness, sensorial activities and practical life activities. Children continue to strengthen their fine and gross motor skills through play. Our pre-kindergarten team pride themselves on relationships to motivate a child in all aspects of learning which in turn ensure the building blocks are present for future success.

Children enrolled at this level of programming need to be three years old by December 31st and must be fully day-time potty trained. Small class size allow for more one on one opportunities between the children and our educators. Children in this program will be introduced to shapes, colors, sounds, letters and numbers as they develop the fine and gross motor skills needed to be successful. Our thematic units are often student directed when the child’s interests guide the discussions and learning. Children in this classroom are engaged in practical life activities with a lot of sensory play.

Our aim is to foster a healthy self-esteem, a sense of independence and responsibility. Our experienced staff take great pride in creating engaging hands-on activities and sensorial exploration and activities for the children.

Children enrolled in our full day Kindergarten program are now engaged in full day programming, in a small class size, with experienced educators in alignment with Montessori methodology. Children learn at their own pace as we continue to foster love for learning. We continue to build on their previous knowledge as we strengthen and build a solid foundation needed for their first years of elementary school. Children are exposed to literacy, numeracy, botany, zoology, geography and will begin to gain an appreciation for fine arts such as music, drama and art. Our educators take time to help children communicate, solve problems and focus on academic learning as well as working together as a classroom community. Through carefully crafted lessons, students continue to develop socially and emotionally, learn healthy habits, develop positive interaction skills and increased personal responsibility. Classroom environments are intentionally prepared to foster self-motivated growth and inclusion. Classrooms are well equipped with traditional Montessori equipment and material, a wide selection of teaching manipulatives, a variety of practical life activities and a selection of toys. The Montessori philosophy is based on self-directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. The role of an educator is to provide support and direction that will reinforce the development of the whole child. Strong daily routines provide developmentally appropriate growth for your child as they learn and create an awareness of self-esteem and confidence. Our learning through play philosophy encourages children to engage in a variety of experiences. Whether it’s bundling up for nature walks in the winter, putting on our rain gear to splash in spring puddles, hunting for worms and collecting fall leaves or enjoying a hot summer day at the spray parks. Our educators are skilled in planning and providing safe and appropriate outdoor and indoor activities which incorporate regular visits to playgrounds and local green spaces. We offer a variety of enrichment activities to compliment our curriculum such as yoga, music and French. We welcome all by celebrating important festivities for different cultures throughout the year, often children themselves will lead these celebrations. We celebrate and share our learning throughout the year and in particular through Winter and Spring concerts. Within the classroom, we believe in leading by example by modelling cooperation, grace and curtesy, pro-social skills and problem solving.

During these challenging times, we have taken care to ensure the safety of our staff and students by enhancing our cleaning procedures and health protocols to adhere to all provincial guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Despite current restrictions we find ways to stay engaged with our families and involving them in our learning.
